10 prize-winning projects present designs for building with wood in Munich, Berlin and Vienna
The 4th edition of the proHolz Student Trophy - launched by proHolz Austria in cooperation with proHolz Bayern and the cities of Munich, Berlin and Vienna - was dedicated to urban redensification, one of the currently central tasks of sustainable urban development, under the title woodencity. Students were asked to create affordable living space in existing areas and in interaction with existing structures for 3 selected building sites in the 3 partner cities.
Around 300 students worked in interdisciplinary teams and submitted 91 entries. The participants came from 29 universities in Austria, Germany, Italy, Slovenia and Russia. A top-class jury selected 3 winning projects, 6 acknowledgements and 1 special prize. The prizes were awarded on 19 May 2022 at a ceremony at the Vienna University of Technology, with prize money amounting to EUR 16,000.
"With the proHolz Student Trophy, we want to inspire young people in training for the multi-functional material wood and achieve a theoretical as well as practical transfer of know-how by setting concrete tasks. The aim is to make even broader use of the climate-impacting properties and design possibilities of wood as a building material in the future."
