Architecture
The team of architects around Fritz Judtmann, who already had a lot of experience in social housing, planned for a four-wing housing block around a large inner courtyard. It is accessible through a three-part open entrance at Graffgasse and Brunnweg.
The inclining buildings are homogenously designed, have five storeys built on a small base of a different colour, and are covered with a hipped roof. The façade is structured by regularly placed windows and vertical balcony axes. Furthermore, the Fernkorngasse side is rhythmised by two slightly protruding oriel-like elements accentuated in two different colours. The majority of the balconies and entrances to the 11 staircases, whose industrial glazing forms vertical axes, are situated in the inner courtyard, according to the concept of healthy living. The façade is coloured in different pastel shades, whereby several axes form one colour unit with only slightly different shades. Stronger colourful accents are set by the corrugated plastic covers of the balconies typical for this time.
A very important element of this complex is the large park-like inner courtyard, which includes a playground and relaxing areas plus a drive-through path and parking spaces for cars.
